Shield beat Cats in close contest 4 to 3

story  by Ian Gibson

Gravenhurst Ontario Sunday November 15, 2009.  The South Muskoka Shield were victors this afternoon in a closely contested battle against the Elliot Lake Bobcats.  According to the box score, the newly appointed Bobcat Captain, Matt Rogers found the back of the net late in the first period to tie the game one all.  The second period found Tom Rush scoring with an assist from Grant VanSlembrouck. It wasn't enough as the Shield scored twice in the second.  In the third Filip Kajba lit up their goalie which was quickly responded to by Chad Meagher of the Shield and proved to be the game winner.

In in phone conversation with Coach Leonard a number of things may have lead to the loss; our boys were a little too fancy at times whereas the shots on goal were 40 to 30 in our favour they could have been a lot greater in our favour.  Three of the four goals scored on us were power play goals. Both Blake Robinson and the Shield goalie played well.  Our boys played well enough to win and all in all it was a good game.  As an aside out boys hit the ice without having lunch due to the bus having broken down and just getting to the arena half an hour after the official start time.

Holding a team like the South Muskoka Shield to a  one goal loss and defeating a team like the Rattlers this weekend serves notice that we definitely our contenders for the Cup!!!  Good weekend guys!
