A Little Information About Elliot Lake

Elliot Lake is a city in Algoma District, Ontario, Canada.  It is north of Lake Huron and midway between the cities of Sudbury and Sault Ste Marie in the Northern Ontario region.  The population of Elliot Lake is around 12,000.

Elliot Lake was established in 1955 as a mining based community after the discovery of uranium in the area.  However, by the early 1990s, as the price of uranium fell and the reserves depleted, the last mines in the area closed.

Since then Elliot Lake has reestablished itself as a retirement community and tourist destination.  Elliot Lake is set in the wilderness, surrounded by forests, lakes, rivers and hills of the Canadian Shield.  It is a great place to enjoy the outdoors with many recreational activities including fishing, hiking, ATVing, snowmobiling, ice fishing, hunting, camping and much more.
