This set up lead to a very pretty and unstoppable goal!
The two pre season matches between the natural rivalry of the Elliot Lake Bobcats and the Thessalon Algoma Avalanche could not have predicted the 7 to 0 result achieved by the Bobcats on Friday September 18, 2009. Dustin Christie was outstanding in nets in achieving the shut out against the Avalanche. From the drop of the puck in the first period there was no doubt in the minds of the very large crowd of about 400 fans that the speed of the Bobcats would overcome the Avalanche resulting in a win.
With five minutes to go at the end of the second period the Avalanche started to show their weariness which resulted in three quick tallies to add to the two already obtained in the first.
The third period saw two more unanswered goals and a little bit of chippiness’ toward the end which was quelled quickly and efficiently by the referees.
Outstanding players for the Elliot Lake Bobcats were; #31 Dustin Christie, # 14 Marion Dojcar and #21 Edward Sedivy. Playing well for the Avalanche were #21 Tanner Burton and #2 Caleb Chillman.
