This fine effort was stopped by yet another fine effort!
Friday September 25, 2009 found the game between the Elliot Lake Bobcats and the Powasson Dragons to be easily described in the following fashion; 1st period, hockey, 2nd period hockey for 15 minutes then came the start of the goon show! 3rd period more goon show and a little hockey.
In reality here is what happened, the first period saw good hockey being played by both teams with the edge primarily with the Bobcats as they outshot the Dragons 16 to 7 ending the period with a late tally to head to the locker room with 3 unanswered goals. There were only 2 penalties, 1 for each team.
The second period found the Cats on the prowl where they found the back of the net twice before the Dragons managed their only goal of the period. Trouble began at the 4:34 mark is when the goons came out to play. I don't understand the young men playing this game. Why do they feel if they can't beat a team by playing hockey then they might as well try to beat them by fighting. Is it their fault or is it the fault of the coaching staff? After all can't the coach control them? I personally don't like the Donny brooking because I feel it is passing the wrong idea about the game to the young hockey players in the stands! Which reminds me, we had about 450 spectators tonight, which if this type hockey continues, may dwindle rapidly, like it did in the past when Espanola had a team. The second period ended with Cats outshooting the Dragons 21 to 5. Score at the end of the second was 6 to 1.
The third period was more of the same except that although being outshot 21 to 7 the Dragons found the back of the net twice to the Cats none. It is important to know that although there were fights in the third the Cats gave it their best effort to avoid them.
Coaches comments: The team played well, it seems that no matter who we play as soon as we get ahead by 6 or 7 we end up trying to stave off the over aggressiveness of the other team.
Kudos to the black and white team as they were severely tested. I do have one question, why would the 10th man in on a fight get a game misconduct especially since he took on two of the orange jersey guys and won! Oh well, I guess you had to be there! Knowing the rules might help me also!
My pick for outstanding players this game were: #21 Eduard Sedivy, #13 Roman Jurak and #3 Mackenzie Thiessen for the Bobcats. For the Dragons #7 Dan Madigan, #9 Zane Petawanikwat and #16 Justin Huycke played well
Next home game Friday Oct 9th vs the Brock Bucks
