Five on Four Nightmare for Moose while losing to Cats 5 - 3

story and photos by Ian Gibson

Frustrations lead to this trip and a penalty shot as the Cat's were down a man!

Elliot Lake Nov 27th:  The Toronto Moose suffered a humiliating loss to the Elliot Lake Bobcats when all five of the Goals scored against them were of the short handed, variety much to the delight of the partisan Bobcat Fans!  It was getting so bad that the Moose General Manager quipped "we should decline the penalties!".  Sorry GM that is only in football.

The game was a non entity for the Bobcats as they had already sewn up first place in the round robin.  It was also not overly important to the standings as win or lose the Moose were to play the Dragons in the quarter finals regardless.  None the less it was an enjoyable match for the spectators to watch.

The first period saw the Moose take the lead at the 11:16 mark when #10 Bryar Hill scored from #9 Gianmarco Aiello and #6 Nathan Joy.  Later at with 8:15 to go #26 Ivo Michel got one past Matt Perry and they lead two to zip.  The Cats finally woke up and responded at 6:38 with a short handed goal from #12 David Secfic assisted by # 11 Filip Kajba.  The Moose lead 2 -1 at the end of the first.

The second period the Cats scored three unanswered short handed goals by #15 Grant VanSlembrouck, #19 Kevin Filthaut and #21 Eduard Sedivy, assist were awarded to #9 Patrick Smolen (2), #15 Grant Vanslembrouck (2) #20 Jason Berlin and the goalie #31 Dustin Christie. With the Moose in such disarray they didn't manage a goal and the teams headed to the dressing room with the Cats ahead 4 - 2.

During the third period five penalties were assessed against the Bobcats, which of course got the fans rumbling as they were expecting the Cats to score, alas the Cats only found one goal by #9 Patrick Smolen assisted by #8 John Johnson and #20 Jason Berlin. Finally, not a team quit, the Moose scored on a power play with 1 second to go on a nice passing play from #25 Ben Marshall to #22 Andrei Lehehiuk to # 17 Devin Madden who had about four feet of net to finish the deed.
