Bobcat's win 3 - 2 in an exhibition match against Avalanche

A close inspection confirms that he did score the goal!

In a pre-season match the newly formed Thessalon Algoma Avalanche acquitted themselves well, however they came out on the short end of a three to two score.  Both the Cats and the Avalanche presented the crowd of almost 200 fans with a very fast skating exciting game.  The hitting in the first period was heavy as a lot of the new junior players were trying to display their toughness.  All three periods were lightning fast end to end action with the Avalanche starting to fade near the latter part of the third.

The game was played on neutral territory at the Blind River arena.  Fans not only came from Elliot Lake and Thessalon but also all the way from Sudbury to Sault Ste Marie.

The Avalanche opened the scoring in the first period with an unanswered tally at the 15:41 mark. The Cat's found the back of the net twice in the second period.  Third period saw both teams scoring one each ending the game with the Bobcats ahead 3 - 2.

Both teams tried out all three of their goalies giving them each a period to strut their stuff. Kudos to the Cats Matt Perry #1 for making a thrilling third period game saving stop.

All in all it was an entertaining match and I look forward to some great hockey between these two.

Always one to give credit where credit is due, the black and white team were almost invisible making it a great game for them!

COACH RYAN LEONARD'S COMMENTS:  He thought the boys were a little nervous for the first eight minutes of the game and then shook it off.  This was the first game the Bobcats have won in the five pre-season games of the clubs history. He was happy with the result as our boys have only skated twice since last Friday and the Avalanche have been skating for the last four weeks!

The fans, myself included, found the arena small compared to ours and look forward to our well conditioned, fast players to show their stuff in a larger venue!

Players that caught my eye for the Bobcats: #10 Derrick Pilatic, #14 Patrick Mirga and #30 Brett Cunning, for the Avalanche: #1 Bradly Hewitt, #9 Adam Delayer, #11 Cain Nolan, and #17 Lucas Gjos - good game fellas!

GAME PHOTOS:

Wait a minute, the number is right but the jersey is wrong!
no it hasn't been 'photo shopped'  it is Thomas Stewart
former Bobcat #12, he is playing for the Avalanche this
year in order to attend University in Sault Ste Marie. Good
luck Thomas in hockey (except when playing us) and at
University!
