Avalanche need steeper mountain to be able
to 'snow' the Cats
story by Ian Gibson

Multi opportunities such as this were capitalized on by the Cats in the 7 to
4 victory
Elliot Lake Centennial Arena Friday Dec 5, 2009: Elliot Lake Bobcats 7 Algoma
Avalanche 4
It is really tough to be able to fully watch a game while
scorekeeping. Yes, I know the story title was a little much, however when
you consider today's (approximately) 25 cm of "snow flurries" then I think I
could be forgiven.
Shots on goal were 35 for the Avalanche to 41 for the Cats. The
shots on goal were not indicative of the game quality. The Bobcats seemed
to out play the Avalanche with a lot of close checking near centre ice.
Turnovers at mid ice were quite frequent for both sides.
The first period was penalty-less and it remained that way until
half way through the second when, ironically, the Cats had taken a five to one
lead. I think that had the players in this game watched last nights game,
they might have learned that playing hard is a lot better than spending time in
the penalty box.
All in all the greatest difference in the game was the fact that
the Bobcats were able to get great positioning on the Avalanche when on offense
and fast skating back checking when on defence.
