Rattlers win GMHL Classic Showcase Championship in an exciting game!

story and photos by Ian Gibson

The Bobcats had many chances such as this and still lost 6 - 4

Elliot Lake November 28, 2009 Elliot Lake Bobcats vs The Bradford Rattlers.

In an exciting match between two fast skating and hard hitting teams the lead changed hands three times before the Rattlers scored an empty net goals to clinch the title.  Lets give credit where credit is due, the Bradford goalie #36 Martin Bjork turned away 47 of the 51 shots on goal, where as; good defence and goaltending at the other end of the rink only allowed 30 shots on goal in which #30 Blake Robinson stopped 26 of them.  The penalties were about even and the play was end to end and although the Rattlers seemed to be growing weary toward the end of the third they still managed the victory.

Scoring in the first for Bradford were #10 Boris Stukalin, assited by #23 Ivan Lyaskevich and #24 Sergey Romanov.  The Cats first tally was by #13 Roman Jurak assited by #8 John Johnson and #16 Matt Rogers.

The second saw the Cats take the lead with goals from #12 David Sefcek and #16 Matt Rogers assists were awarded to #9 Patrick Smolen, #17 Branislav Jankovic, #19 Kevin Flthaut and 21 Eduard Sedivy.  The Rattlers only managed one by #19 Jesper Delfs assisted by #22 Victor Brottman and #27 Stanislav Nikonov.

The last period  found the Bradford squad getting two quick ones early in the period by #77 Artem Podshendyalov and #13 Stanislav Izvekov with assists going to #24 Sergey Romanov, #55 Nakita Vasilyev, #27 Stanislav Nikonov and #19 Jesper Delfs. The Cats got there fourth goal from #13 Roman Jurak assisted by #14 Mario Dojcar and #17 Branislav Jankovic.  Bradfords fifth tally was an unassisted effort from #24 Sergey Romanov, then came the empty netter by #77 Artem Podshendyalov to end the chances for the Bobcats.

All in all it was a great showcase where all participants gave it there all and I hope go back home with fond memories.

Now lets get back to league play!
